Commentary:
Start of Final Day
Ichinojo VS Chiyonoo: Ichinojo wins by Uwatenage (overarm throw) to finish the tournament with a 8-7 Kachikoshi record.
Ikioi VS Shohozan: Shohozan wins and finishes the basho with a 5-10 record. Ikioi ends with 3-12, both rikishi end with losing records.
Sadanoumi VS Hoshoryu: Hoshoryu with a Yorikiri frontal push out victory against Sadanoumi, to end the basho with a 8-7 Kachikoshi. Sadanoumi meanwhile was not so fortunate, and ended with a Makekoshi 7-8 record.
Shimanoumi VS Wakatakakage: Wakatakakage finished the Aki basho as he started, with a solid Yorikiri victory against Shimanoumi, to end on an 11-4 winning record. Shimanoumi finishes the basho with 6-9 Makekoshi.
Tokushoryu VS Onosho: Tokushoryu with a great thrusting attack to win by Yorikiri. Onosho had such a great start to this basho, he’s bound to be disappointed with the way it ended. Their records are: 7-8 and 10-5.
Kaisei VS Kagayaki: Kagayaki secures his Aki basho Kachikoshi, while Kaisei misses out and finishes with a Makekoshi. Their records are: 7-8 and 8-7 respectively.
Takayasu VS Meisei: A strong end to the basho for Takayasu with a tsukidashi frontal thrust out victory against Meisei, to end his tournament with a strong 10-5 winning record. Meisei has also got a winning record, and ends with 9-6.
Kotoeko VS Takarafuji: Kotoeko secures his Kachikoshi and beats Takarafuji for the first time after a back and forth bout that could have gone either way! Their records end on: 8-7 and 7-8 respectively.
2nd Half
Kotoshogiku VS Terutsuyoshi: Tertsuyoshi with the victory against the injured Kotoshogiku with a win by Yorikiri. Their records end on: 2-10-3 and 5-10 respectively. Lots of speculation on the future of Kotoshogiku’s career, however, We would like to see him persevere and finish on a good note if his body allows it.
Myogiryu VS Enho: Enho with a shitatenage underarm throw to defeat his bigger opponent. Enho finishes on much better form than he started this basho and looks set to score well in November if he carries this momentum forward. Their records: 6-9 and 6-9.
Kotoshoho VS Tamawashi: Kotoshoho with a seemingly easy win against Tamawashi by tsukidashi thrust out. Their records are: 10-5 and 5-10.
Hokutofuji VS Tochinoshin: Hokutofuji wins by Oshidashi frontal push out to defeat Tochinoshin. Their records end on: 6-9 and 6-9 respectively.
Aoiyama VS Takanosho: Again a strong start from Aoiyama, but a switch from pushing thrusting to pulling and backtracking costs him the match. Takanosho now has 10-5 while Aoiyama gets a Makekoshi, 7-8.
Daieisho VS Okinoumi: Daieisho with good footwork to win by tsukiotoshi thrust down over Okinoumi. Their records end on: 5-10 and 4-11 respectively.
Kribayama VS Mitakeumi: Kiribayama defeats Mitakeumi by Yorikiri frontal force out to finish on a high of 9-4-2 while Mitakeumi finishes on 8-7.
Shodai VS Tobizaru: And Shodai wins to secure the Emperor’s cup against Tobizaru. His first ever Yusho and he now hopes to be promoted to Ozeki for the november basho! Great fighting spirit from Tobizaru who took Shodai right onto the tawara!
Asanoyama VS Takakeisho: A strange matta at the start of the match saw Asanoyama get a second go at Takakeisho, however, it was to no avail since Takakeisho’s footwork and strength were running on a full tank!

Commentary:
Start of Day 14
Nishikigi VS Shohozan: Shohozan wins to go 4-10 while Nishikigi goes to 5-9. A win by Hatakikomi (slap down).
Ikioi VS Ishiura: Ishiura picks up his third win of the basho to proceed to the final day with a 3-4-7 record. Ikioi will continue with a 3-11 record.
Sadanoumi VS Ichinojo: Sadanoumi defeats Ichinojo by Yorikiri (frontal force out). Their records are now both 7-7.
Shimanoumi VS Kotoeko: Kotoeko with an Oshidashi (frontal push out) victory against Shimanoumi, taking their records to: 6-8 and 7-7 respectively.
Tokushoryu VS Kotoshoho: A close fight but Kotoshoho comes out victorious with a win by Oshidashi (frontal push out). Their records are now: 6-8 and 9-5 respectively.
Ryuden VS Kotoshogiku: An initial Matta caused by Ryuden charging whilst Kotoshogiku was not ready resulted in a brief pause of the action. On the restart, Kotoshogiku got the better Tachiai and took Ryuden onto the Tawara (straw bales that form the ring). However, Ryuden summoned great strength to overturn the odds and throw Kotoshogiku onto the flor of the dohyo to win by Uwatenage (overarm throw). Their records are now: 6-8 and 2-9-3.
Kaisei VS Aoiyama: was the preliminary victor of this bout with a good tachiai and an excellent pushing style to boot. However, it was not to be for the Bulgarian rikishi after he initiated the pulling action, which has lost him so many matches before and ultimately ended up in his defeat by Oshidashi today. Their records are now both 7-7.
Hoshoryu VS Kagayaki: Hoshoryu with the win by Kakenage (hooking inner thigh throw) taking their records to: 7-7.
Myogiryu VS Meisei: Meisei wins with a tsukiotoshi thrust down to go to 9-5. Myogiryu lost after his opponent disappeared from in front of him and couldn’t stop his own momentum (with a little shove from Meisei) from walking him out. Their records are now: 6-8 and 9-5.
End of 1st Half
Enho VS Terutsuyoshi: Excellent bout from Enho after dodging Terutsuyoshi’s tachiai and getting behind his opponent to win by Okuridashi. Their records are now: 5-9 and 4-10 respectively.
Hokutofuji VS Takayasu: Hokutofuji VS Takayasu: Takayasu with the win! Hatakikomi slap down victory for Takayasu against Hokutofuji after a pushing game from both rikishi. Their records are now: 5-9 and 9-5 respectively.
Tochinoshin vs Tamawashi: Tochinoshin and Tamawashi had a very even pushing thrusting match which could have gone either way, however, Tochinoshin eventually came out victorious to win by Yorikiri (frontal force out). Their records are now: 6-8 and 5-9.
Onosho VS Takanosho: Takanosho wins after a close pushing bout by hatakikomi slap down, taking Onosho out of the Yusho fight. Their records are 10-4 and 9-5 respectively.
Okinoumi VS Kiribayama: An easy victory for Kiribayama after manoeuvring Okinoumi onto the Tawara. A win by Yorikiri (frontal force out). Their records are: 4-10 and 8-4-2.
Daieisho VS Takarafuji: Takarafuji wins by Oshidashi. Their records are now: 4-10 and 7-7 respectively.
Wakatakakage VS Mitakeumi: Mitakeumi gains his Kachikoshi with a win by shitatenage (underarm throw). Conversely, this eliminates Wakatakakage from Yusho contention and takes their records to: 10-4 and 8-6 respectively.
Asanoyama VS Shodai: Shodai slams Asanoyama down to the clay and wins by Oshitaoshi, taking Asanoyama out of the Yusho contention. Their records are: 10-4 and 12-2.
Tobizaru VS Takakeisho: Takakeisho crushes Tobizaru’s title hopes in the final match of Day 14 with a win by hatakikomi slap down. Their records are now both 11-3 meaning that Shodai is the sole leader (12-2) going into the final day of sumo action.

Commentary:
Start of Day 13
Terunofuji and Chiyotairyu have both withdrawn from the Aki basho.
Shimanoumi VS Shohozan: Shimanoumi wins by the rare kimedashi (arm barring throw) tecnique. Their records are now 6-7 and 3-10 respectively.
Hoshoryu VS Ishiura: Hoshoryu wins by Uwatenage (overarm throw). Their records are now 6-7 and 2-4-7 respectively.
Ichinojo VS Kotoshogiku: Ichinojo with a convincing victory against Kotoshogiku to win by Okuridashi (rear push out).
Sadanoumi VS Kaisei: Kaisei had a disappointing bout and was effectively escorted to the floor of the dohyo by Sadanoumi. Sadanoumi wins by tsukiotoshi (thrust down). Their records are both 6-7.
Enho VS Meisei: Meisei with a convincing victory over Enho, just simply pushing Enho out with a hatakikomi (slap down) win. Meisei gets his Kachikoshi with 8 wins and 5 losses. Enho meanwhile drops further, to proceed into Day 14 with a 4-9 losing record.
Tokushoryu VS Chiyotairyu: Chiyotairyu is kyujo and therefore Tokushoryu wins by default. Their records are: 6-7 and 5-8 respectively.
Kotoeko VS Aoiyama: A good victory for Kotoeko to win by Yorikiri (frontal force out) over Aoiyama. It was disappointing from Aoiyama, as he seemingly defaulted to a grabbing style rather than his usual pushing thrusting. Rikishi should stick true to their way of sumo to capitalise on their abilities! Their records are now 6-7 and 7-6 respectively.
Takayasu VS Kotoshoho: Takaysu wins to get his Kachikoshi for the Aki basho. The bout was won after Kotoshoho slips down to the floor of the dohyo to allow Takayasu the victory after his opponent lost by tsukite (hand touch down). Their records are both: 8-5.
Onosho VS Takarafuji: Onosho comes out of this bout the victor with a Yorikiri (frontal force out) over Takarafuji. Their records are 10-3 and 6-7 respectively, meaning Onosho is still within Yūshō contention.
End of 1st Half
Kagayaki VS Tochinoshin: Kagayaki wins after a mono-ii after Tochinoshin’s heel went out of the tawara, therefore Kagayaki wins by Oshidashi (frontal push out). Tochinoshin now has a Makekoshi losing record.
Myogiryu VS Tamawashi: Myogiryu slams down Tamawashi to win by abisetaoshi (backward force down). Their records now stand at 6-7 and 5-8 respectively. Tamawashi now with a make-koshi losing record.
Hokutofuji VS Terutsuyoshi: After 3 Matta, the bout was finally ready to play and Terustuyoshi jumped to the side of Hokutofuji’s tachiai to win – almost immediately – by okuridashi (rear push out). Their records are now 5-8 and 4-9. Makekoshi for both rikishi.
Tobizaru VS Takanosho: Tobizaru wins by Okuridashi (rear push out) to further consolidate his position as joint lead in this basho. Their records are now: 11-2 and 8-5 respectively.
After withdrawing from the competition, Terunofuji gifts Wakatakakage a walkover victory. Their records now stand at 8-5 and 10-3 respectively.
Okinoumi VS Ryuden: Yorikiri victory for Ryuden! It was a close match from both rikishi, Okinoumi had the initial upper hand, but Ryuden persevered to eventually force his opponent out of the dohyo. Their records now lie at 4-9 and 5-8 respectively.
Daieisho VS Kiribayama: This victory over Daieisho gives Kiribayama his 7th win. He goes to 7-4-2 while Daieisho goes to 4-9.
Shodai VS Takakeisho: Shodai with the victory! Shodai beats Takakeisho to go 11-2 into the 14th day of action. Takakeisho is not out of the running yet, however, his run on yusho is now in the hands of the other rikishi rather than his own. 10-3 for Takakeisho. #Sumo
Asanoyama VS Mitakeumi: Too much strength from the Ozeki for Mitakeumi to deal with. Asanoyama masterfully throws down his opponent by uwatenage to go 10-3. Mitakeumi still without his kachikoshi, and will want to win against Wakatakakage tomorrow to secure this winning record.

Commentary:
Start of Day 12
Endo pulls out of the Aki basho on Day 12 after suffering a suspected right ACL injury (To be confirmed). His tournament record will be 3-9.
First bout of the day, Kotoshoho VS Ishiura: Kotoshoho had some excellent speed out of the tachiai to easily push Ishiura out of the ring by tsukidashi (frontal thrust out). Kotoshoho now has 8 wins and 4 losses, Ishiura meanwhile only has 2 wins, 3 losses and 7 absences.
Shohozan VS Kaisei: Kaisei wins against Shohozan via Oshitaoshi (frontal push down). They had a roughly even tachiai, however, Kaisei’s pushing game was on form today and he was too powerful for Shohozan.
Chiyotairyu VS Mesei: A strong initial charge from Chiyotairyu, but the resistance quickly disappeared from Meisei after he switchd from pushing to pulling. Meisei wins by Tsukiotoshi (thrust down). Their records stand at: 5-7 and 7-5 respectively.
Shimanoumi VS Kotoshogiku: So close and yet so far for Kotoshogiku. He had an excellent start to the bout and had Shimanoumi up on the tawara (straw bales). Unfortunately it was not to be and Shimanoumi won by tsukiotoshi (thrust down). Their records now lie at: 5-7 and 2-7-3.
Enho VS Hoshoryu: Enho beats Hoshoryu by Hikiotoshi (hand pull down) to go 4-8 while Hoshoryu goes to 5-7.
Tokushoryu VS Ichinojo: Yorikiri (frontal push out) victory for Tokushoryu. Ichinojo is at risk of relegation back to Juryo if he can’t pick up the pace over the next couple of days. Their records are now: 5-7 and 6-6.
Tobizaru VS Wakatakakage: The rookie, Tobiazru goes 10-2 with a Hitatkikomi (slap down) victory against Wakatakakage. Wakatakakage now drops to 9-3 Aki basho record.
Sadanoumi VS Aoiyama: Aoiyama wins after playing his exceptional style of sumo to the end of that bout. A win by Tsukidashi to take him up to 7-5. Sadanoumi’s main hope was to manoeuvre his big opponent such that Aoiyama initiated some pulling action (his pulling game has severely let him down recently.). Sadanoumi goes to 5-7.
Myogiryu VS Kotoeko: A quick pushing tachiai from Myogiryu setup Kotoeko for quick and decisive defeat. Myogiryu won by Oshidashi (frontal push out). Their records are now: 5-7 apiece.
Start of the 2nd half
Ryuden VS Terutsuyoshi: Ryuden with a comfortable victory over Terutsuyoshi and winning by uwatedashinage. Ryuden stopped Terutsuyoshi’s tachiai dead and once the pair were locked in battle, there was only ever going to be one victor, great win for Ryuden! Their records are now: 4-8, 3-7.
Hokutofuji VS Tamawashi: Nice Oshidashi (frontal push out) win for Hokutofuji. Both men seemed in good fighting form but Hokutofuji’s pushing and thrusting game proved to be too high of a hurdle for Tamwashi. Their records are now both 5-7.
Terunofuji VS Onosho: Onosho! What a great fight from the pusher thruster to defeat the fromer Ozeki, Terunofuji. Both men have had a great basho so far and their records now stand at: Terunofuji (8-4), Onosho (9-3).
Kagayaki VS Takanosho: Takanosho with a convincing Oshidashi win against Kagayaki. Kagayaki was on the backfoot from the start and lost out to Takanosho’s pushing game. Their records are now: 6-6 and 8-4 respectively.
Okinoumi VS Tochinoshin: Okinoumi picks up his fourth victory after Tochinoshin appeared to be undecisive as to whether he should push and thrust or pull. It was ultimately the switch to pulling that lost him the bout. Their records are now: 4-8 and 5-7.
Takayasu VS Mitakeumi: An exciting bout of sumo there from both rikishi, with a victory by katasukashi (under shoulder swing down) for Takayasu. Their records are now both 7-5.
Shodai VS Takarafuji: ‘Beautiful’ win for Shodai says NHK’s Murray Johnson, with a quick and decisive attack to secure a 10-2 record. Takarafuji now goes to 6-6.
Asanoyama vs Daieisho: Asanoyama VS Daieisho: Asanoyama with the win after a back and forth bout and he goes to 9-3. Daieisho proceeds to Day13 with a 4-8 makekoshi record.
Takakeisho VS Endo: A fusensho win for Takakeisho after Endo has pulled out with a right ACL knee injury. Takakeisho with 10-2.

Commentary:
End of Day 11
Exceptional show of strength from Ozeki Asanoyama to slam Okinoumi down to the floor! Asanoyama goes to 8-3, while Okinoumi gets a Make-Koshi 3-8 record.
Takakeisho wins against Takarafuji but struggled to get up after the bout. Let’s hope he’s not injured or otherwise hurt and can continue for the rest of the tournament. Takakeisho continues as a Yusho contender with 9-2 record. Takarafuji goes to 6-5.
A win for Mitakeumi VS Kagayaki by Yorikiri (frontal force out). There was not much resistance from his opponent and it was a relatively staightforward fight for the Sekiwake. 7-4 for Mitakeumi while Kagayaki goes to 6-5. Sumo
Terutsuyoshi loses and his record is now Make-Koshi (more losses than wins) for the Aki basho. Daieisho wins by Oshidashi to progress with a tournament record of 4-7.
Shodai with an impressive victory against Takayasu. Shodai was close to loosing his footing and back-tracking, but managed to turn things around and take Takayasu out for a spin! Oshitaoshi (frontal push down). Their records are now 9-2 and 6-5 respectively.
Tochinoshin with the win over Endo after the gyoji’s initial decision to award the victory to Endo was reversed by the mono-ii. Tochinoshin wins by Hatakikomi (slap down) to go 5-6 while endo now proceeds with 3-8 – Make-Koshi.
Terunofuji wins and gets a kachi-koshi against Myogiryu. He wins by Yorikiri (frontal force out) to go 8-3. Myogiryu meanwhile drops to a perilous record of 4-7 and not far away from attaining a make-koshi.
Easy victory for Takanosho over Tamawashi. A strong tachiai from Takanosho got Tamawashi on the back foot and it was thereafter a simple task for Takanosho to win by Oshidashi (frontal push out). Their records are: 7-4 and 5-6 respectively.
Hokutofuji wins by Hatakikomi (slap down) from the tachiai against Ryuden. The pair were both on 3-7 but now Hokutofuji progresses to 4-7 while Ryuden moves down to 3-8.
End of the 1st Half
Aoiyama appears to lose his balance and ends up running out of the Dohyo… Kotoshoho with the victory by Hikiotoshi (pull down). Their records are now: Kotoshoho 7-4 and Aoiyama 6-5.
Tokushoryu with an Oshidashi victory over Hoshoryu. After the tachiai, they went chest-to-chest and Tokushoryu’s power proved too much for the young Hoshoryu to overcome. Their records are: 4-7 and 5-6 respectively.
Wakatakakage wins against Chiyotairyu for the first time to increase his Aki basho record to 9-2. Chiyotairyu, losing by Oshidashi (frontal push out) drops to a tournament record of 5-6.
Well, it looked like Enho had lost that bout after being twirled around by Shimanoumi, but it was not to be for the Maegashira #15 after Enho used his opponent’s momentum against him to win by Hikiotoshi (hand pull down). Their records are now: 3-7 and 4-7
An exciting bout from Tobizaru to win against Onosho by hatakikomi (slap down). The pair were Yusho leaders before this match and now Onosho drops to a record of 8-3 while Tobizaru continues with a 9-2 record. Sumo
Meisei defeats Sadanoumi by Oshidashi to go 5-5. Sadanoumi continues the Aki basho with a record of 5-6.
Ichinojo with a strong tachi-ai against Kotoeko. The Mongolian rikishi’s pushing games was simply too strong for his smaller opponent, and he wins by Oshidashi (frontal push out). Their records are now: 6-5 and 5-6 respectively.
Shohozan wins by Yorikiri (frontal force out) over Kotoshogiku. Kotoshogiku came back from a calf injury and it is clear that he is still struggling when it comes to the lengthy bouts. Their records are now: Shohozan 3-8 and Kotoshogiku 2-6-3.
Kaisei defeats Ishiura with an Oshidashi frontal push out. Their September basho records are as follows: Kaisei 5-6, Ishiura 2-2-7.
