On day 10, Hakuho fought his 1000th bout as a Yokozuna against Maegashira #5 Hokutofuji. Hakuho further cemented his grip on the all-time record for “most bouts as Yokozuna” having now played 1000 bouts as a Yokozuna and 1076 Makuuchi career wins.
Being already 35 years of age, many have speculated about the Mongolian rikishi‘s future in the sport, with suggestions of retirement often being thrown around. However, Hakuho maintains his goal is to reach 50 championship wins in sumo – to which he is very close, achieving 44 championships to date!
